To become computer hardware genius, first you must understand-

"What is computer? What is the working principal of computer? How does it work?"

Computer is system which consists of two elements that are hardware and software. Hardware of a computer is the collection of all the physical parts of a computer which can be touch or exist physically. On the other hand, software of a computer is set of instruction by which it can perform specific operation.

In very simple word, the working principal of a computer is to convert the input data into output, which is controlled and carried out by Central Processing Unit (CPU), hence it is termed as “brain of computer”.

To know “How does computer work?”, you need to understand what are input devices and output devices.

Input Device: Input devices are those by which we give or feed information and data to the computer. Mouse, Scanner, Keyboard are some of the input devices which we usually use.

Output Device: After processing the input information or data at the Central Processing Unit (CPU), it gives out output in the output device like monitor, printer, speaker, etc.

A computer works by getting input information from input devices through the software and process at CPU giving out the final result to its output devices.

Inside the computer, you will find every component/ parts are connected to mainboard which is called motherboard of a system (computer). Here I am writing only the brief introduction to the hardware part of a computer.

You need to know in details about

Motherboard: It is main printed circuit board present in a computer. It connects all components and external peripheral and work as the communication connectivity point between various parts, components of computer.

CPU: It processes the input data and converts into output data. Try to learn about various types of CPU available in market.

RAM: It store data that’s currently in used.

ROM: It is built in memory that contains programming which allows your computer to boot up or regenerated each time when computer is turn on.

STORAGE DRIVES: It is used for storing or porting data files and objects. It is used to hold or store information or file both temporarily and permanently. It can be internal or external to a computer.

You need to work and research on hard drive, CD/DVD, ROM Drive, removable media drive like flash drive and SD cards. Peripheral Cards which add additional function to the computer like sound, networking and video/graphic cards.

Activity 1:

As you get familiar about parts/components of computer, to understand, visits a computer store. Now asked salesman to show computer for gaming and note down various parts of the system. Ask again show computer for doing simple work like typing, again note down various properties of hardware the computer used. Now it time, to distinguish the differences of properties in two systems. This will make you clear about what type of properties or components are required to make a computer run fast.

Activity 2:

If you have a computer in your home than it will be great for you, open your computer and try to locate each components or hardware present inside the computer. Try to locate- motherboard, CPU, RAM, Hard Disk, DVD/CD ROM, etc. This will make you familiar to hardware of computer. If you don’t have full confident don’t open or remove any parts of computer. To open and replace parts, you can visit YouTube there are lots of video on how of open a computer, how to replace RAM, how to remove CPU, many video- watch and understand clearly.

Never open a computer, if it is plug in to power supply.

Now, you need to open a computer and remove all the components from it and reinstall it back again and turn it on and observe whether it how or not. Try this for 3 to 4 times, now you are ready and become expert in assembling PC. If you can, try to assemble new PC.
