Contrary to popular belief, and despite the near-ubiquity of its Amazon Prime subscription service among modern consumers, Amazon's ecommerce site is hardly its cash cow. 

Nope — that title belongs to Amazon Web Services, or AWS, its subsidiary providing on-demand cloud computing services.

But what AWS lacks in mainstream name recognition, it makes up for with stellar growth and profits: According to Amazon's most recent financial statement, AWS grew 47 percent in the 2018 fiscal year, and raked in an operating income of $7.3 billion to cement its status as the tech company's most profitable arm.
