'Why is the government afraid?': Stephen Colbert dissects a week of protest.

Stephen Colbert kicked off his Friday episode of the Late Show with a monologue dissecting the past week of protest actions. The segment is specifically focused on the actions of state and federal officials who have, in many cases, been responsible for escalating situations toward violence, as well as the growing presence of ID-less "secret police."

"No, it's not necessarily a bad thing for the government to fear its own people," Colbert explained. "Leaders should have a healthy caution of overstepping the rights of its citizens, lest they rise up to remove them."

He continued: "Over the past 10 days, the people have publicly assembled to petition the government to redress their grievances, and in response our leaders are trying to intimidate us into silence. It won't work." Read more...
